WHY AMBIS MUSIC
A Return to Music. A Renewed Sense of Purpose.
After nearly a decade away from composing, I found my way back to music with a renewed sense of purpose and a very different perspective on what I wanted my work to become.
I didn’t simply want to start writing again. I wanted to create a home for the music I had already written, a place for everything still waiting to be created, and a way to connect those works directly with the musicians, conductors, educators, and audiences who bring them to life.
Ambis Music grew from that idea.
It is an independent home for original music built around creativity, collaboration, and the belief that music can mean something long after the final note disappears.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Every Piece Should Have a Reason to Exist.
I have always been drawn to music that tells a story.
Throughout the Ambis Music catalog, those stories take many forms. Some explore deeply personal memories and experiences. Others reflect on growth, loss, humor, nature, technology, or the people and moments that shape our lives.
The subject may change from one piece to the next, but the philosophy remains the same:
Every piece should have a reason to exist.
That doesn’t mean every work must be serious or profound. Music can make us reflect, laugh, remember, question, celebrate, or simply enjoy the experience of making something together.
What matters is that there is something behind the notes—something for performers to discover and something for audiences to experience.
That is what Music With Purpose means to Ambis Music.

Ambis Music is composer-led, but it is also musician-led.
I continue to rehearse and perform as a bassoonist, experiencing music from the same side of the stand as the musicians performing my work.
That perspective influences the way I compose and the resources I provide.
A score isn’t finished simply because the notes have been written. Musicians have to rehearse it. Conductors have to interpret it. Ensembles have to balance it. Students have to learn it. And eventually, an audience has to experience it.
That is why Ambis Music works to provide more than a score.
Recordings, score previews, detailed performance considerations, difficulty information, composer clinics, and direct communication are all intended to help conductors and musicians understand not only what is written on the page, but why it is there.
The goal is to make the journey from discovering a piece to performing it as useful, collaborative, and rewarding as possible.

More Than a Music Publisher
Music education is ultimately about more than preparing the next concert. It is about building the next generation of musicians.
That means the needs of an educator don’t always begin or end with a piece of music.

Because supporting music education isn’t only about putting music on the stand. It’s about giving educators the tools they need to teach, giving students the support they need to grow, and helping create the musicians who will carry this art form forward.

And that is exactly how I hope it remains.
Ambis Music isn’t intended to become a static collection of scores or simply another place to purchase music. It is an evolving creative and educational resource—one shaped by the musicians who perform the music, the educators who teach it, and the experiences that inspire whatever comes next.
There are many more stories still waiting to be told, musicians waiting to be encouraged, and problems waiting for thoughtful solutions.
