Program Notes

Based in c# minor with a transition into the ending key of e minor, this piece is a little bit darker, falling into all 3 ranges of the bassoon. The title, Memorie Dolorse, translates from Italian to “painful memories”. It is both lyrically and technically challenging for all three bassoonists.

Performance Notes

Bassoon 1 switches back and forth between tenor clef and bass clef. All 3 bassoon share the ostinato at some point. Play lyrical when high, and connected when low.
